Health & safety
guidelines
In an ideal situation, it is prudent to follow some simple guidelines before treatment that can make all the difference between a fair result or great result, by reducing some possible side effects associated with the injections. We realize this is not always possible, however, minimizing these risks is always desirable.
neuromodulator GUIDELINES
Before your neuromodulator treatment
Avoid alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood increasing risk of bruising).
Avoid anti-inflammatory / blood thinning medications ideally for a period of two weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements such as:
Aspirin, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Gingo Biloba, St. John's Wort, Garlic, Cod Liver Oil, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx and other NSAIDS are all blood thinning and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling after injections. Please discuss with your primary doctor before discontinuing any prescribed medications.Schedule injectable appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which may be occurring, i.e., wedding, vacation, etc. It is not desirable to have a special event occurring and be bruised from an injection which could have been avoided.
What to expect during your treatment
We start each appointment with a detailed facial consult with development of an individualized treatment plan to address your needs and concerns
We then clean the injection areas with antibacterial agents to prepare the skin for treatment
While you may experience some brief mild discomfort during treatment, we do our best to minimize pain with a combination of numbing medications and distraction devices
Immediately following your treatment you may notice minimal swelling and redness at treatment sites that will be temporary
After your NeuROmodulator treatment
Feel free to contact Drs. Demchur or Dorai or any of their associates with questions, comments or concerns at any time following treatment. We want you to safe, happy and completely satisfied.
Avoid manipulating or rubbing the area of the injection site for several hours. Avoid hats, visors or anything that applies pressure to the face. This can cause the neurotoxin solution to migrate or move around, making it more likely to impact areas beyond the desired muscles.
Avoid exercising or excessive sweating for at least 24 hours after the neurotoxin injection procedure.
Avoid make-up, face washing or showers for at least 4 hours after treatment.
Avoid laying down or bending forward for at least 4 hours after the neurotoxin injection procedure. These actions can cause migration of the solution that can lead to complications and undesired outcomes or effects.
Avoid facials, massages, exfoliating scrubs, laser treatments, microneedling, or microdermabrasion for at least 24 hours. You may gently wash your face without scrubbing 4 hours after treatment.
While you may see results in as little as 48 to 72 hours after injection, this is not typical. The majority of patients do not notice full impact from the treatment for 7-14 days.
Although exceptionally rare, an allergic reaction is possible. If you notice skin redness of an extreme nature, excessive swelling or a developing rash, see a health care professional immediately. The same is necessary if you experience puffy or very swollen eyes, a severe headache or other adverse reactions. Previous treatments can cause antibodies to develop that can lead to undesired reactions.
DERMaL FILLER GUIDELINES
Before your filler treatment
If you have a special event or vacation coming up, please keep in mind that you may want to schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks in advance.
Clients should not schedule any invasive procedures for 2 weeks before or after treatment with dermal fillers. These include but are not limited to: Dental cleaning or dental work, Lesion excision or biopsy, Surgery of any kind, Tattoo or permanent makeup.
It is recommended that you wait at least 2 weeks to have dermal filler treatment preformed if you have previously had cosmetic treatments with laser, ultrasound, peels, facials or microdermabrasion.
History of surgical face lift of any kind will lead to denial of treatment of dermal fillers (Restylane Lyft and Voluma XC) to the mid-face or cheek region.
It is recommended to discontinue the use of Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E or nay other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising or bleeding. Please consult with your primary physician prior to discontinuing any medications.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplement, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment. These items may contribute to increased swelling or irritation. It is also recommended to discontinue Retin A 2-3 days before treatment to avoid any increased redness and irritation.
If you have a history of cold sores with outbreaks occurring more than 4 times a year, it is recommended that you are pretreated with medication prior to the injection treatments around or near the oral area. The medication will need to be initiated 3 days prior to your treatment visit. Please consult with your primary care physician in obtaining the medication.
If you develop a cold/flu, cold sore, blemish or rash on the area to be treated prior to your appointment, we recommend that you please reschedule our appointment until it resolves.
